Overview
Cougaar Software, Inc. is working to achieve the concepts and technologies around the Cognitive Grid through our commercial development platform ActiveEdge. ActiveEdge utilizes a variety of concepts and technologies, and you can use this knowledge center to learn more about many of them.
Intelligent Agents
Intelligent Agents are the core framework upon which ActiveEdge and the Cognitive Grid are being assembled. Agents, and Agent-oriented program, represent the next generation of programming paradigm and provide an effective way for us to build large scale, intelligent solutions. Cognitive Grid

Situational Reasoning
Conventional databases are not rich or dynamic enough to support intelligent systems. ActiveEdge provides the ability to create rich-knowledge representations of the situation and maintain them in near-real time through our Situational Reasoning Framework (SRF). SRF using a combination of new model techniques, sophisticated infrastructure and design methodology to living representations of your operational picture - which in turn can be basis of planning, reasoning, visualization and decision support.
